The Moon is the ruler of Cancer and the Mother, and all lunar, sea and even Earth Mother correspondences would be appropriate for this eighth working of the 13 Days of Yule. Sea foam, lunar, and earthen tones are the colors of Cancer, along with moonstone, pearl, mother of pearl and beryl for stones. Jasmine, Camphor and Mugwort are excellent scents for incense and oil. In Tarot, the Chariot is the Major Arcana trump associated with Cancer, like a knight within his armor, the crab within the shell, but on the journey to the Great Mystery of the Mother. While the Great Mother is ever present in life, to truly know her, we must seek her. 

Since this working will be a microcosm of the forces for the month when the Sun is in Cancer, you might want to pull a Tarot Card, Rune, Ogham or any other divination omen before, or after the workings, to give yourself further insight. 

Entering into a meditative state. Prepare yourself and your space.

On Day Eight of the Working, we call upon the Mother Goddess, the source of life within our body, and the gateway of the soul. 

We call upon the Mother Goddess

At the halfway point around the Wheel of Stars, we return again to the Mother, she who birthed our Child of Light, Hope and Promise. With her blessing, we will complete another turn of elements – the first four signs of the Zodiac – the fire of the Warrior, the earth of the Steward, the air of the Trickster and now the water of the Mother. 

We come to the cave, to the grotto and Moon pools of the Mother Goddess. Though considered the sky, the area of Cancer in the Great wheel is considered the Nadir, the lowest point in the Wheel, and associated with the North, the Underworld and the darkness. We are guided by the light of the Child within the heart, growing stronger like a torch within us. Many things grow in the darkness of the grotto. This darkness is fertile with life and love. 

There, in the darkness, encounter the Mother once again. 

Commune with the Mother. 

She teaches us to return to nature, and offers the gift to communicate with the wild animals and creatures of nature. 

She teaches us how to feed ourselves, how to nourish, how to eat and breathe correctly. 

She hold the cornucopia of nourishment and the cup of immortality. 

She offers you nourishment.

Nourishment for your body. Nourishment for your souls.

She holds you like the Child of Light that you are, and offers her own silent blessing to you.

(Pause)

Receive the Wisdom of the Mother, the blessing of true nourishment.
