Sometimes we sink back
and root deep,b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_6160.PNG
drawing up nourishment
from cool, dark places
and eternal mysteries.
Sometimes we send out
tender shoots
of possibility
tasting the air cautiously,
checking to see
if it is safe to grow.
Sometimes we crack open
with abandon,
casting off our limits
and our caution
and pushing forward with intention,
determined and strong.
Sometimes we rise up
riotous and wild
aching with the fullness to bloom.
Always we are held
on solid ground,
even when we feel lost
and uncertain,
or ferocious and powerful.
Always we are cradled
on a rich and whirling Earth,
the sky above our
bright and bounteous forms.

“No longer am I only hearing my own voice
but instead I co-exist in a world where
No photo description available.everything speaks with  its own unique, quirky, gorgeous personality. Every berry has a little  voice, every grass stalk makes itself known. I become surrounded by a  community of living Earth, and this entire community is willing to play  with me in this changing game of life.”

—Day Schildkret (Morning Altars, @morningaltars)

What is waiting for you to notice it?

Do you have time to play in this changing game of life?

As we enter the flourishing of spring, I have a practice-based audio meditation to share based on Day Schildkret's book Morning Altars. It is a Place Meditation.

A Prayer for Uncertain Times

May I act with compassion,
remembering the irreplaceable valueb2ap3_thumbnail_89706561_2592221270990079_2611214320670867456_o.jpg
of the threads of human connection.
May I maintain a spirit of curiosity,
generosity, and creativity.
May I extend a hand when needed
and retreat when necessary.
May I exercise wise discernment.
May I remember to step outside
under a wide sky.
May I sweep my arms up and open
and then bring them down,
palms to the earth,
feeling the steady thrum of life
weaving the whole.
Placing one hand on my heart
and one on my belly,
may I be inspired, nourished, and restored
by this matching pulse within.
May I allow myself to pause
and witness the tender terrain
of uncertainty
and choose to inhabit it fully,
allowing not knowing, maybe, and if
to drift around me on the winds
of change,
while I take
another step
on solid ground.

What will I learn in the woods today?
There are deer to your left,
the sun is to your right,
spring is singing to the sky,
it is possible to make good friends with a rock.
There are truths about living
written in the patterns of leafshadow upon stone.

There is an audio version of this post available via this link.

"Human beings are ritual-making creatures. We might not build them consciously, but form them we will. We honor the goddess most effectively when we create rituals that express the best of ourselves and our intentions toward the earth, our mother."

    Goddess of green spaces
    and deep places
    cleanse my soul.

    Anoint my spirit
    with peace
    and remind me
    to let go.

    Remind me
    of the power
    of appreciating
    that which I have.

    May I inhale
    and exhale
    with release
    and freedom.

    The spirit of adventure
    runs through my veins
    with the rich color
    of crushed raspberry

May it always run so free
    may it be blessed
    and may I be reminded
    of the courage and love
    shown in small, wild adventures.
