Goddess Centered Practice

In the woods behind my house rest a collection of nine large flat rocks. Daily, I walk down to these “priestess rocks” for some sacred time alone to pray, meditate, consider, and be. Often, while in this space, I open my mouth and poetry comes out. I’ve come to see this experience as "theapoetics"—experiencing the Goddess through direct “revelation,” framed in language. As Stanley Hopper originally described in the 1970’s, it is possible to “…replace theology, the rationalistic interpretation of belief, with theopoetics, finding God[dess] through poetry and fiction, which neither wither before modern science nor conflict with the complexity of what we know now to be the self.” Theapoetics might also be described, “as a means of engaging language and perception in such a way that one enters into a radical relation with the divine, the other, and the creation in which all occurs.”

Book Review: Seasons and Solace, by Jennifer Miller

reviewed by Molly Remer

“…when I turn my face
to the eye of heaven,
blazing herald of another day in this life,
I feel as though we are greeting each other
as the oldest of friends…”

--Seasons and Solace, p. 21

We need companions on our journey through the sacred mundane wonder of life on this earth. We need reminders of our own belonging. We need encouragement that to see this planet, these stones, this sky, these trees as friends are not the whims of a solitary seeker, but are experiences shared by ordinary mystics and backyard pilgrims all across this wondrous planet.

Seasons and Solace by Jennifer Miller is one such companion. This is a lovely little spiritual and seasonal collection of readings and reflections for the complete wheel of the year from an earth-celebrating, Druidic perspective. Offering a pathway to wonder, magic, and beauty, and rooted in both animism and Celtic traditions, this short book will help you feel inspired by and connected to Life’s great and powerful rhythms. A delightful companion for ritual, group, or solitary use as you walk through the wheel of the year.

Seasons and Solace is currently available for pre-order via Amazon. Jennifer’s website for her inspired and evocative poetry is Quill of the Goddess.
