Learn how Classical Music harbors subliminal and not-so subliminal Pagan messages.
Where are the Musicians?
Hi! In the spirit of my last "entry," I thought I'd hazard the question: Where are the musicians among the readers of Witches and Pagans dot Com, and what is your level of experience? Private lessons, high school band, church choir, pagan choir, college degree? Community orchestra? Rock Band? What's your main instrument? How long have you played/sung? Have you written any music? If so, is it 'secular' or for the Gods?

It is, as again I very briefly post here thru this not-always-behaving 'touchscreen' 'smartphone', 24 hrs since last my previous posting..... I am but a mere 'month's-old' private studies student of the guitar. Piano I have done but decades ago. Am I still the only respondent to Lady Candice's inquiring inquiry? If I, as only the merest
re-starting beginner, am so far Her only respondent, where indeed are the Musicians?.....

This will be a bit long. I am 20 now and I've been in band since I was 12 playing the flute. I started the piccolo at 13, and added on the sporano recorder and alto recorder when I was 14, the piano when I was 15, and the mallet percussion when I was 17. During high school I only missed one quarter of band and I took two years of private piano lessons as well as half a year of private flute lessons. Along with band, I joined an orchestra outside of school with my flute and piccolo. I was with the Capital Area Youth Symphony for eight years before they closed down. After they closed, I joined the Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia also with my flute and piccolo and now with the mallet percussion. In 2009 and 2010 I was chosen to go to Longview, WA and play in the Honor Band with my flute and Piccolo. Through all that, I also did choir. From middle school, high school, and college I was in choir as a soprano. Before I turned to Wicca, I was a member of my church's choir as their youngest soprano and I also played my flute with them. In 2011, I was given the honor of joining the Honor Choir for out annual Massed Choir Festival. That same year for our Choir Contest, I scored the highest marks and was chosen to continue on to Central Washington University for another round of contests.
As of yet I have not written any music but I have played and sung so much that it all blurs together in my memories. I have played so much for so long that sometimes I forget why I started playing in the first place. And then I play something new and I remember; because music makes me happy and also because it brought happiness to my mother.
I believe that the Gods gave us music so that we too could hear it's joy. Music is a universal language, one that transcends time, hate, religion, and pretty much all else. Music is its own thing. Every race and religion has their own set thing about music, but it's that they have music to begin with that make us all equal in the Gods eyes. They gave ti to all of us not just a secluded few. -

Right here! Have played piano since I was 3, guitar since I was 12, and various other instruments from time to time. I have a Bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in Voice and Piano, and a Master's degree in Opera Performance from a respected conservatory. I was a professional opera singer for a number of years, and have worked in the administration of several opera companies. I've composed a number of classical art songs (including a set called Songs To The Earth, which included a soprano setting of the Charge of the Goddess), and a bunch of pop tunes, and occasionally still play coffeehouse gigs and stuff.

Candi, I'm a fellow Pagan Square blogger, a W&P reader, and I am a professional musician who has been playing for Pagan audiences for thirty years. I have a dozen recordings of Pagan music available, and I helped to create the circuit of Pagan festivals and events that many musicians follow today. I've also performed for mainstream audiences for thee decades, and have recorded for three different record labels. http://kennyklein.net

As of this quietly calm SoCal night I am a very much early-days beginning guitar student. I was, ever so many years ago, a piano student. Learning again my music on the guitar & not the piano's keyboard is a decided challenge.
Yet, for all the lesson re-learned & new learnings begun it is a challenge well worth the efforts required......
