Like tides, lives have high and low times. Sometimes you're riding on top of the wave, sometimes you're impossibly riding inside the tube of the wave and it is so cool and amazing, but sometimes you're in the trough. You can stand up and yell "Make wave!" or just wait it out and it's coming around the same either way.

If you're feeling low, and feeling like you aren't doing enough with your religious and magical practice, this advice is for you.

Even when you're too depressed to feel the presence of the gods and other people, they are still there. The gods are still looking out for you. Eventually you'll get your groove back, get your magic back, get back on top of that wave, but it may take time and work. That includes working on the self. These days people talk a lot about shadow work, and you may need that, or you may need therapy, or just plain work. It's OK if your magical and religious practice slips when you're struggling with everyday life. If you want to continue, do something small.

What is something small?

Raise a toast to the gods with your cup of tea that you were going to have anyway. No matter how small the gesture, it still invites the gods into your life.

Other small things you can do include re-reading a book that helped you get started on your path. If a whole book is too much, just read a poem. If reading anything is too much, listen to a song. If words are too much, look at a flower.
