Out of the deeps rises the mysterious lotus. Stop in for refreshment, heka, and reflections from the sacred waters of ancient Egypt.
Dua, Maat, you who were with Ra from the beginning.
Mistress of the two lands, Lady of truth, dua, hail and welcome.
We behold the sun when it rises, flanked by Thoth and Maat.
Dua, Maat, the the balance and order of our lives, the just measure of all things, the perfect state of harmony that exists in Sep Tepi.
We breathe in your perfume so that we may live.
You are consciousness itself, and Thoth is knowledge.
Without you there is no order, only chaos, isfet.
With you is truth, integrity, goodness.
I move in Maat.
I live in Maat.
Maat fills my body.
Maat rests in my head.
Maat makes her seat upon my brow.
The breath of my body is of Maat.
My heart lives in Maat.
All that I eat, all that I drink, all that I breathe, all that I am is of Maat.
(At right, the pharaoh presents Maat during a ceremony intended to reaffirm commitment to her principles of justice and balance.)
