SEXY MAY DAY PARTAY

The elements of sexy: a clean house, a clean you, light tasty finger food, and good drink. These four basics will engage your senses. Added extras would include some groovy tunes and fresh flowers, of course. You really cannot have too many good smells, sounds, and visuals today.

When cleaning, throw in about five drops of Bergamot essential oil in the mop water and/or for polish on wood. Bergamot is known for it's uplifting qualities, and also blends nicely with lavender. It is always a wise idea to take care of this the night before, so that you can wake to a clear and pleasant space – setting the tone for the day. Decorate your altar in vibrant reds, whites and florals as the last order of business before getting a good sleep. Don't forget to put some clean sheets on the bed (wink wink).

Another recommended way to start your day: baking while you make your coffee. Save some of the latter to enjoy as soon as your fresh-baked goods are ready from the oven. Every year I love to break out the "Scones of Edinburgh" recipe from Patricia Telesco's excellent cookbook. (See full recipe in one of my earlier posts, "May Day, May Day– No Parking on the Dance Floor"). This year was no exception, topped with a pat of butter and organic raspberry preserves.

Get squeaky and shower up with all of your best-smelling soaps and shampoos. Finish off with some lotions and potions. Essential oil blends tend to be less over-powering than perfume and applying them to pulse points when your skin is still slightly damp can make them linger. Try the sensual and musky Frankincense and Myrrh by Kuumba Made, or the woodsy forest aroma of Helichrysum by Aura Cacia. Heck, try a combo of both today.

For the party, invite only your most uninhibited hedonists. No wallflowers allowed at this soi·rée. Stock up on the afore-mentioned finger foods, and nothing heavy or fussy. Also, feasting can be fun but being bloated after? Not sexy. Two musts for this special day are berries and a crisp pink rosé. Stream some colorful streamers (instantly more festive), and bring on more fresh flowers. Keep the mood loose and informal. In fact, only require party guests to bring even more flowers and spread them out in each room.

Do what you feel with the tunes, but for bass-thumping sexy, I am currently a big fan of selections from the "True Blood" end credits, volumes one, three and four to be exact. The vamps on that show were anything but sparkly, and really had teeth if you'll pardon the pun. As an item of note, there's no reason why you have to invite the gang over unless you really want to. Do all of the above and make it a party of two. Finish the night on those new sheets or on the clean living floor for all I care. ; )
