Oak Moon: the love affair of Pan and Selene

Let the beauty we love, be what we do.

There are a thousand ways to kneel and touch the ground.

-Rumi

The Cancer-Capricorn dynamic can be the most striking opposition of the Zodiac. Cancer—watery, emotional, imaginative—has been called the maternal of all the signs, and the most aligned to the Divine Feminine and the Goddess-centered values of compassion and kindness. Capricorn—ruled by austere, logical Saturn—embodies the Divine Masculine's paternal qualities of protection, stability and practicality. In this way, Cancer-Capricorn can be seen as the eternal Mother and Father, working together to create the best environment for the support and nurturance of their children. The power of the Cancer-Capricorn dynamic is to create that field of nourishing, loving support in which we can all flourish, thrive and be fully expressive.

In this way, this lunar transit mirrors the love affair of the moon Goddess Selene, and the God Pan. Pan, the goat-horned god, protector of all wild things, embodies Capricorn's earthy and passionate presence, the joys of the flesh, of incarnation. Selene shines down radiant light and abiding love unconditionally, opening our hearts to greater compassion and the wild promptings of our imagination. Their desire for each other is much like the dance of Spirit and Soul, the Spirit descending into flesh and Soul rising up into it, meeting each other with such an intensity of love, that entire worlds are created, that ignites a spark of divinity in what was purely material.

In between these powerful forces, we as witches and magicians can experience the alchemy of deep transformation. We are called to acknowledge both our limitations as finite, earthly beings, and to transcend those limits through unbounded imagination and the abundant grace of our Gods. In between the green earth and starry skies, we can call out to the Mystery, for healing, protection, love, for our heart's desires and for the highest good of all beings on our beloved planet. We become both the grateful receivers of this blessing, and the means to transmit the blessing to those we love and beyond.
