A Lost Poem from Book XII of the Greek Anthology

So fiery is his seed, they say,

that, in his potency, he kindles

men and women both,

and they bring forth. Well,

so they say. Man to man,

I'd gladly put it to the test.

We won't know till we try.

Compiled between the 10th and 14th centuries, the Greek Anthology preserves Greek poetry from the Classical and early Byzantine periods. Book XII is well-known for its homoerotic verse.

Poet, scholar and storyteller Steven Posch was raised in the hardwood forests of western Pennsylvania by white-tailed deer. (That's the story, anyway.) He emigrated to Paganistan in 1979 and by sheer dint of personality has become one of Lake Country's foremost men-in-black. He is current keeper of the Minnesota Ooser.
