Given the strong emotional ties made with money, I think a lot more people in our society approach it as animists than they themselves realize.  To love money, or to hate it, or fear it, is to imbue it with spirit, or recognize that it has spirit regardless.  Why not take the next step, and allow that relationship to be a two-way one?

What have you done for money lately?  Do you say prayers, make offerings, keep a shrine?  Do you give and take money without thought for the medium itself, but only the necessities and luxuries it can provide for you and your loved ones?  Do you use it for magical purposes?  Do you thank money for its role in your life, ignore it, avoid it, or curse it?

Spend some time studying the physical money in your possession.  See how it's designed and constructed, note the individual markings and signs of wear and damage it has picked up as it moves through the economy.  Light a candle and open yourself to its spirit.  Does it want anything from you?  Does it wish to bring something into your life?  You don't necessarily have to agree to anything, but you can't make an informed decision if you don't know if the money spirits have motivations of their own.  Without knowledge, the feelings we have about money are based on nothing but what's in our own heads.  It's possible that a dialog may bring understanding, or be the start of a new relationship with money.  Is there anything to lose?
