From the Oak: Let’s hear it for the God!

Many are those that focus on female divinities, leaving male divinities in the shadows if they get mentioned at all. This is a shame. Here I will share my thoughts, stories and prayers on male divinities. Currently focusing on divinities placed in an atheist "graveyard".

Venus of Rome

sex and love
beauty and enticement
seduction and persuasion
victory and wine
these are your gifts

Lady of Myrtles
your devotees seek you
out of desire, not obligation
they seek your favor, your grace
your charm, your je ne sais quoi
for you temper the fiery
uniting opposites in affection
whether divine or mortal

Lady of Roses
yours is the wedding night
no care in you for the contract
yet your flowers adorn
the bride’s bouquet
your image rightfully placed
on her household shrine

Mother of Rome
whose temple was placed
upon their Capitoline Hill
granting political favors
and military victories
bearing the triumphant laurel

Lady of Wine
your drink graces the table
of the everyday life
of both common and elite
for your abundant blessings
enable gardens and vineyards
to produce that which feeds
both body and soul

Hail gracious goddess
may you be pleased
with this prose
and bless my life
with your pleasant gifts.

Venus is divinity #21 of the Gods found in the atheists' graveyard.  This praise poem helps fulfill my promise to write something on each divinity wrongfully placed there.

I'm an eclectic polytheist whose main divinities are Heru-ur, Bast, Sobek, Yinepu Isis, Zeus-Serapis, and Yemaya. I'm a mother, wife and Librarian living in the Rocky Mountains stumbling on my path and wondering what the heck I'm doing. Blessed be.
