Surely I'm not the only Pagan pissed off that ISIS -- the Islamic State of Iraq -- a group devoted to deep Patriarchy, is using the name of one of "our" Goddesses?
More on this later this week as the Moon wanes and our opportunities for magical work increase.

The group's name in Arabic is ad-dawla ʾal-islāmiyya fīl-‘irāq waš-šām, which happens to translate into English as the Islamic Sta

No, you're not the only one. It aggravates me, though I haven't made up my mind about how significant it is. I look forward to re
By now the story is almost risibly routine.
A white guy with a grudge and gun -- the kind of grudge that comes from believing that you are owed control, and adoration, and sexual service, and the kind of gun that can kill a lot of people in a very short period of time, with a minimum of effort -- murders a bunch of people, many of whom he didn't even know, many of whom were women. It happens all the time in America. It is, the gun fetishists tell us, just the "price of freedom," just an unintended, but inalterable, consequence of the Second Amendment. As has also become fairly common, the white guy with the grudge and the gun left messages: in this case, YouTube videos that explicitly spelled out how his "Day of Retribution" would play out, not to mention a 140-page "manifesto" sent to his parents, therapists, a radio station, etc. (The police interviewed him and, as he was white, and privileged, and polite, decided that he was harmless and didn't do anything.) And then there were his Facebook page and the messages that he'd left on various "men's rights" websites.

I'll be voting tomorrow in our county's Democratic caucus to pick a candidate for the upcoming school board election. The county caucuses are fun; there's always some school group selling cupcakes or cookies and there are lots of activists handing out literature and seeking signatures for all sorts of causes. And, usually, the candidates are there and more than willing to talk about the issues.
I never vote without remembering my ancestors: both of my blood (my grandma was born when women did not have the right to vote) and of my spirit (the Occoquan Suffragettes seem to show up in the booth with me with rather surprising regularity).
