Womb of Light: The Alchemy of the Goddess

Womb of Light is an exploration of the Sacred Feminine and the application of Her transformative energies. These writings will have the intent and focus of inspiring and quickening within the individual a thirst for deeper connection and opening to the magick and gnosis of the Goddess in all of Her forms. She is the Mother, the Uraeus, the Muse, the Warrior, and the Healer, to name a few. SHE is the cycle of life and death and all that is held between; and my goal is to share the wisdom of her Womb of Light that all may claim their Divine birthright.

Winter Fires: A Solstice Story in Two Parts

Part One

Lily pulled on her warmest coat and snow boots, ready for an adventure outside. Snow had been falling for several hours and she loved the quiet that descended when the ground was blanketed in fluffy white snow. Even the coziness and warmth of her cottage could not entice her to stay inside and miss the chance of walking at sunset through the woods that bordered her home.

She wrapped a wool scarf snuggly around her neck and pulled on the winter cap that she had just finished knitting and had been hoping for a chance to wear it sooner rather than later.  Impatient to leave, she tugged at her mittens and took one quick glance at the dimly lit room and spun back around to push the wooden door open.

A swoosh of crisp cold air greeted her and she quickly stepped onto the porch and securely closed the door behind so as not to let out any of the heat. She knew that she would appreciate this warmth later after her snowy adventure and the image of herself sitting beside the fireplace with a hot cup of cocoa flashed through her mind.  No time to waste on day dreaming, though. The snow and the woods were waiting!

Lily pulled the edge of her scarf up slightly to cover her mouth and took a deep breath as she walked down the four steps of the porch and into the freshly fallen snow. She loved this twilight time of dusk, especially when it was snowing. The light reflected just so on the pristine whiteness of the snow creating a luminescent glow. She was accustomed to walking in the woods and knew all of the paths with her eyes closed if need be. So, the magickal glow of snowlight was an added bonus in creating exactly the atmosphere she craved.

Taking a few steps forward towards the opening between her favorite trees, she paused and listened intently to hear how much noise her footstep would create in the snow. This was very important, because the quieter she was able to be, the more hidden delights she would be able to see without startling the wildlife that made their home next to hers.  She quietly counted her steps-one-two-three-four. Perfect! She barely made a sound and if she walked at a slow and quietly steady rhythm, who knew what she might see. Pleased by her stealth-like abilities, Lily paused and looked up. Tiny snowflakes tumbled down around her. She could tell that the snow would soon stop falling as it had slowed significantly, so she stuck out a pink and warm tongue, catching some of the icy wet drops and savoring the sweetness she tasted. She thought to herself that this was how snow should taste.

She remembered having lived in the city for a few years and the sootiness and smell of gasoline that always came with snowfalls. Barely had the snow fallen than it was trampled upon, driven through, salted and blackened by dirt and debris. She remembered that she would sit and weep every time snow was predicted, knowing the fate that was awaiting its first tiny pristine flake. She shivered at these memories and quickly pulled herself back into the present and the sweet taste of the last few flurries.

“Time to move on”, Lily quietly said to herself, ”there’s so much more to explore”.  She stood now at the entrance into "her woods", as she called them. Two massive evergreens stood on either side of a roughly crafted path that deer frequented and had claimed as their own.  She could smell the fragrance of the trees and the dampness of soil covered roots. The snow had completely stopped falling and branches were thickly covered and snow came tumbling down as she made her way past extended limbs causing no sound whatsoever. The quiet was overwhelming and Lily thought how extraordinary it was that a mantle of icy water could muffle so much.

As though in contradiction to this musing, the sound of a small animal scurrying nearby, startled her from this reverie and shifted her mood; piquing her curiosity. Lily always did have a fondness for the small furries; mice and chipmunks her favorite. She was pleased that her eyes had become accustomed to the dark and made a small sound of delight at seeing a small dark tail trace its mark in the nearby snow. And, just as quickly as she had caught a glimpse, the little one scampered off under an evergreen.

The momentary distraction, set her gaze into the shadows and now as she turned her sights on the path ahead, Lily took note of a flickering light that shone through the trees and the smell of fragrant wood burning wafting through the air.....
