Meadow Magic

One of my great loves is to create spreads for Tarot. This one can be used with any oracle deck. I think it would be fun to try it with Lisa Hunt's gorgeous Winged Enchantment Oracle. I created this spread about nine years ago while living in Colorado.

How Zentangle Made Me A Better Psychic

There's this ugly little thought in the pagan community. It's an insidious thing--this thought. It says that if you can't still your mind, you can't work magic. It has a bit of shame connected to it. Like pieces of tissue with bits of the brown stuff stuck to your shoe, it flutters about just waiting for someone more knowing, more "silent of mind" to notice.

As you may have guessed I have really struggled with meditation. My walk on the path of the Craft began in the early 80's. My teacher did guided meditations. My mind did what I like to think of as solo explorations of the story possibilities of those guided meditations.

Gratitude As A Spiritual Practice

First my apologies for my disappearance. No excuses. I just didn't schedule blogging time into my day. I've missed y'all!

In 2008, I created a spread I called Gratitude As A Spiritual Practice. I based this on something Joanna Powell Colbert said about how she viewed Gratitude as a spiritual practice. Normally when I create spreads, I go for smaller patterns with seven or less cards. I find those work better for me. But this one seemed to really need more. So it ended up being a total of thirteen cards.

I wanted to share this here because I think I've been missing a serious practice of giving thanks. I seek joy daily, yes. However, there seems to be a nuance, a flavor, a texture that isn't quite right. It's my belief that it is gratitude. Not just a weekly gratitude list, but a pause in my day where I take stock of things. Where I acknowledge the joys and give thanks for what's going right in my life.

Halloween ace of pumpkins 400

Symbols, both ancient and contemporary, can be a treasure trove for creating fresh divination positions for layouts. Even symbolic shapes have informed tried-and-true spreads; the Celtic Cross and Horseshoe Spreads spring to mind.

Tarot And The New Moon

b2ap3_thumbnail_Shadowscapes_2Cups.jpgTarot and magic is an interesting subject. It's also a fairly old one or so I am led to believe. I wanted to share another super simple spell that can be done at the new moon. September's new moon is on the 24th (or 23rd depending on your time zone).

In my practice, I was taught that the New Moon esbats were a time for doing healing work. Sometimes we had a bowl for names of those we were doing work for. Other times we simply spoke their name into the Circle. New Moons were one of my favorite esbats with my training coven because they were a quieter working.

Using Tarot in a New Moon esbat for healing is not a precise science. There are 78 choices after all. And let's not get started on the number of combinations.

Tarot Blog Hop: Oh Shut Up, Mom!

PREVIOUS | MASTER | NEXT

For those of you who are new to the Tarot Blog hop, the idea behind this is that the Tarot community joins together every six weeks to blog on a specific topic. That topic is proposed by whomever is wrangling the hop. We began in 2012 with an Imbolc hop that asked, "How can I be a better candle." This is our third year. The bloggers change and we are always happy for more to join us. You can learn more here. All those who work to promote camaraderie and community within the Tarot world are welcome.

The Other Half - Fairy Lights Tarot

It is said that each of us have someone in the world that is just for us, even if we don't want them. Some call them soul mates, some call them twin flames others call them a pain in the ass. Like it or not there is an energy out there that is your matching pair. Lucia Mattioli takes this idea to a whole new level with her deck Fairy Lights Tarot. In this deck each of the cards have a matching pair or another half floating around somewhere in the vortex of the deck. Not only does this fascinate me from a deck creator stand point, but it also totally switches things up from a reading stand point.

Before I bought this deck I knew about this fascinating plot twist within the story of the Fairy Lights Tarot. In essence it was the reason I bought the deck. I had to see it for myself. I wanted to put the pieces together and put them together I did. Although this was harder then I thought it would be, finding all the pairs didn't take me as long as I thought it would. And you can bet your bottom dollar once I did reunite the couples in the deck I took a photo of them. I did this for one reason and one reason only, I wanted a quick reference guide to the matching energy for reading purposes.
