In today's fiery Tuesday post, we concentrate our attention on issues of interest to Pagan activists: Mother Jones takes a cheap shot; John Halstead offers an opinion on Indiana's new "religious freedom" law; is doing spellwork for money ethical?; women's power connected to witchcraft; consent culture and Pagan festivals.

Oh dear, Mother Jones -- really? This cheap shot (on an interesting subject that deserves better treatment) against religious minorities is both stupid and a low blow. Shame, Mother Jones, shame on you.

Fiery Tuesday is here and the PaganNewsBeagle is back. Labor Day Blues (most Americans are too overworked to take time off); town of Greece is pretty clear which God they want civic prayers to address; the legend of Horatio Alger, the plight of the Yazidis, and Pagan consent culture.

Did you take Labor Day (U.S. holiday) off? If so, congratulations. This story at the HuffPo points out a troubling trend: an increasing number of us are too overworked, stressed-out, and downright scared of losing their job to take vacation time.

Niceville City LimitI was going to write about something related but different in my next column.  But I read Shauna Aura Knight’s excellent post about her stance on the Frosts this morning, and the controversy she has encountered has encouraged me to change focus.  It seems to me that much of the criticism and condemnation boils down to, "She's not playing nice."  Well, here's the problem with "niceness."  I must tread carefully to protect privacy so much of my language is deliberately vague.

One of our tradition members – an initiate of an initiate – contacted my husband and priest.  She said that her teenage daughter had told her that her husband had sexually abused her.  The couple have been married for many years; the girl in question is the man’s daughter genetically.  The mother was, quite understandably, in tears.  She wanted to know what she should do.
