The Edge of Her is dedicated to all who honor the edge of our creation through life's traditions, stories, and connections with the Divine Feminine. "When you can't go forward and you can't go backward, and you can't stay where you are without killing off what is deep and vital in yourself, you are on the edge of creation." ~ Sue Monk Kidd, Dance of the Dissident Daughter

The Gathering of the Tribes

The Harvest moon...she was quite marvelous this month. And now we move toward a dark moon where she invites the depths of knowledge to mingle and play in the soil beneath our feet.

Are you feeling the palpable richness of this moment? The effervescent juiciness of the energies?  I experience it as acceleration in my heart center and a Knowing in the gut. Indeed we sit within a time of sacred transition. A process of celebratory release this time of year so that the elasticity and resiliency of our very foundation may become more apparent.

A great deal of the "work" I choose to engage in is spent weaving in and out of various circles of community; something I recognize I have done since I was very young. I was never one to want to be a part of cliques in school because my desire was to become acquainted with and understand everyone’s unique perspective. I am a weaver; a bridge builder. This lifestyle has invited some mighty fine adventures and an ability to mesh language and kindred spirit. It has also proven to be a lonely path to walk at times yet that even is shifting as time and geography become more fluid.

The gateways have begun to open more and more. I believe it is because the circles of communities have begun to enmesh, enrich, and feed one another. Ideas are pollinating and the offspring are nourishing this resilient foundation upon which we are all created. The once lonely path between villages of the spirit is now lit with firefly light and drumbeat.

Humanity is shifting in tremendous ways right now. I believe we can all agree. Some will tell you it is because we are finding common ground, the opening of hearts, and the ability to relate to one another like never before. Some will tell you we’re heading into oblivion and that our species is doomed to die off in a burning inferno! And of course there are a myriad of shades and hues which sit between. Most definitely, we are paying closer attention to the details.

What I see (and what I hope you are seeing as well) is a quickening of the internal spirit of the collective. Communities are remembering why we are here and what we have to celebrate. There is much opportunity for healing and for connecting across the illusion of boundaries. We are realizing these connections in celebration of stories which have been prophesied by many indigenous cultures worldwide.

Look around you with a simple gaze. Nature provides rich, symbiotic relationships for us to witness and to marvel. Now take a step back and look around you in a bigger way. Entire cultures are shifting and growing to meet the times we are experiencing so that cooperation instead of corruption are becoming the norm.

The responsibility I believe we have before us is to take a stand. Any stand! What do you stand for as a member of your community and do you stand with a clear heart and mind? These gatherings of tribes are shaped by our strong convictions. Whether you are standing for the environment or moving toward living a more open and compassionate life of service in simpler ways, this is a wondrous time to be alive!

The challenges I see many facing currently are challenges of personhood. Who are we and what are we here to accomplish? What are we afraid of? What do we love? While these are perennial questions of the ages, I am pleased to witness many who are coming into their Light and Power. Are they facing challenges along the way to finding their own experience of truth? Oh, mercy yes. What well-worn path has not had its share of brambles?

Keep in mind though, once the path has been cleared, please do remember those brambles on the side of the road contain the richest and ripest of berries. Be sure to pick some for yourself and those tribe members of yours.

A life well lived is well worth sharing.

(If you are interested in experiencing and sharing a beautiful dedication to the concept of gathering and community, look to Douglas Wood's two "Old Turtle" books. These modern fables serve as a gentle reminder and the lush illustrations provide inspiration for the weariest of souls.)
