SageWoman Blogs

I am intrigued with living and conceptualizing the emerging paradigm of the Sacred Feminine. May you experience this blog as a Circle where you can breathe in to who you are. May you find new dimensions to yourself.

Sacred Space

My first blog for SageWoman. Welcome sister! May this become a Sacred Space where you come to breathe, resource, come home to sisters and the Sacred Feminine. A place where you reconnect to the sacred.

I am writing this on a flight from Amsterdam to Denver. I will be meeting Clarissa Pinkola Estés. Exciting, as my life as a spiritual teacher started out 20 years ago with giving workshops around her fabulous book Women Who Run With the Wolves. What a thrilling moment! A good opportunity to reflect on my years of teaching and priestessing. What has proven itself important through the years?

At that time I was beginning on this path I was impressed by one of my neighbors. She always had something to say on everything. Wouldn’t life be easy if I always knew everything, I often mused? If I had all the right words to put a blog together? Actually, life has proved differently. She alienated her dear ones from her by always having to tell her view on things, and never having space to listen to THEIR side. I am not so jealous of her anymore.

I also remember being in a group with a very extravert man at that time, and one day sighing: ‘I just don’t know how to connect with you, you are the sun and me the moon, and whenever you come out I disappear’.

In the meantime, I started teaching priestess programs, travelling to Crete, Egypt, Avalon and other sacred lands of the Goddess. I began to understand how I could work with MY gifts, instead of wanting to have other’s gifts. Sacred Space has for me come out of this. I realize more and more that what makes my magic happen, what you will remember me for, what I have to offer to you is my connection with the Sacred Feminine. And to bring you that Divine Fire, I need a basket, I was told in one of my first rituals.

It was in Amsterdam. I knew it was to be with witches on a graveyard, it was all totally new to me and I felt anxious. ‘What if this is more serious than we think’, I said to my friend as we were entering the gate, ’what if they cast real spells and my life will never by my own again?’ However, we were welcomed by a radiant tall woman who was creating a crescent shaped altar on a sunny lawn, not on the graveyard but behind. I immediately felt such welcoming space, such connection with the earth, that I knew this was my home. We passed a ladle with water with beautiful circular movements and blessed each other. We made fire in the sacred way so we needed only to light it once, then it would take care of itself. And someone shared a story of eagle and lion being burned as they try to bring the fire back to the animals, but spider wove a basket and brought back the fire without a scorch.

It was the sacredness that touched me. The sacredness of sitting in circle, of passing water, of lighting fire, of sharing story. A sacredness that could come because there was space.

The story of spider was symbolic here: for the sacred is like fire. Neither lion nor eagle can bring the sacred back into our lives. As long as we identify with eagle and lion in ourselves, we will achieve heroic feats, but we will not bring back the sacred. For that, we may connect with spider in ourselves. She who takes the time to quietly walk to the fire, meanwhile weaving a basket. Who doesn’t show off the fire on her back, but keeps it in her basket. My dream for this blog is to weave a basket, in which I can bring you the fire.

Time to stow away my laptop, as we will be landing soon. I hope next time to share more on my time with Clarissa Pinkola Estés. But I hope you that what you will come back for, is that I touched your heart. That you felt here connected to the sacred.

Bless you,

Klara Adalena

I offer Sacred Space Online Events and a Priestess Training in Avalon, Egypt, Crete and Netherlands. This is just the beginning of my bio, and I know it’s already so much. I published a book in Netherlands: Living In Bliss, The Path of Initiation in Ancient Goddess Cultures (in Dutch). What intrigues me now is leaving behind old structures and being ever more true to the moment. I live next to the sea with my dog and cat, and love travel and dancing. I have also recently had the epiphany regarding working with my own gifts instead of bemoaning the ones I do not have. Enjoyed your post and look forward to hearing about your time with Clarissa. :)
