Before I launch into this weeks review I have a confession to make. I SUCK at Lenormand. I am so bad at using these cards I am not really sure why I own any Lenormand decks at all. When Lynn Sparrow from US games told me she had sent me a Lenormand deck to review my heart sunk. Needless to say I was screwed. The deck was already in the mail and on its way to me. I either figured out how to use these cards or hang my head in shame and admit defeat.

This review falls somewhere in the middle of figuring these cards out and admitting defeat. I am not sure where that is exactly, but it's the intersecting points between knowing enough to pull this review off but not knowing enough to actually read anyone beyond myself with any real confidence.

You may have noticed that I have only ever done one other Lenormand post on this blog and that was actually an interview. If you wish to hear that interview again with Rachel Pollack just click here.

Thankfully the deck Lynn sent me was a fabulous beginner deck. And really that is one of the best things about the Blue Bird Lenormand, you can suck at them and still manage to make sense of what's in front of you. Okay not the best thing, the artwork is stunning, the card stock is fabulous and it has a pretty cute little book that comes along with it.

I also very much like the design of the card faces themselves. They have the meaning of the cards clearly on the card, which is perfect for beginner knuckle heads like myself. And they have the playing card in the upper left corner. My wife just adores this layout on these cards. I should also tell you my wife has actually become quite good with these Blue Bird cards. She leaves me in the dust when it comes to doing a Lenormand reading. But maybe that is because she is not a tarot person.

I'm still not sure what my block is with these cards, but I am happy that I was able to play with this deck and not feel like a complete idiot. Though I have to admit, I do run away when the “Bad” cards show up in a reading.

Lenormand does have this real in your face, bad shit can and does happen feel to it. And anytime the snake, the mice, the coffin or the scythe show up I automatically pull new cards. Don't even get me started on the tower card, that card confuses the hell out of me.

To be fair, this is not the cards fault, this is just me still working how what it all means. The Blue Bird Lenormand though is very user friendly and not as intimidating as some of the other Lenormand Decks I have in my collection. Yes I keep buying them. It's a sick sick disease!!! To this I give US games credit for creating a product that is ripe for beginners, welcoming to the scary cats of the world yet sophisticated enough for the most experienced Lenormand reader.

Good work US Games, Good work!
