Gnosis Diary: Life as a Heathen
My personal experiences, including religious and spiritual experiences, community interaction, general heathenry, and modern life on my heathen path, which is Asatru.
Ukrainian War Magic? Maybe
As recently reported in the Wild Hunt, it appears that a Ukrainian news agency reported that Ukrainian witches are planning a ritual against Putin. The Wild Hunt indicates this article may be propaganda by Russia, since it was picked up by Russian state controlled media after the Ukrainian article ran.

I make no claims for whether this really originated from Ukrainian witches. I don't have the kind of intelligence assets that would allow me to make that determination. The article itself indicates the ritual is being done by both Ukrainian witches and foreign allies, but only includes ritual instructions for second part of the ritual, the part that is not a curse but is instead meant to be supportive of the fighting forces in Ukraine. Curiously, the gods called upon in the instructions include Heathen (Norse / Asatru) gods in addition to a Slavic god. War is inherently violent, so even though the second part of the ritual is not a curse but appears to be positive magic, it is still in support of violence, so don't participate if you are not comfortable with that.
This article calls for a 3 part ritual, with each part to be performed at a different time. The first part was in March and has been done. April's ritual is in support of Ukraine's armed forces.
This ritual calls for these words: "На победу нашего великого народа, на удачу, успех и открытие дорог! И пусть все боги войны - Один, Тор, Перун - сопутствуют нам!" Roughly translated, this means "For the victory of our great people, for good luck and to open the way! I call on the gods of war, Odin, Thor, and Perun, to help us!"
If you do this ritual phrase, "us/our" means Ukraine and it has to include you, so don't speak this if you don't mean the "us / our" part. That is, when you say "our people" if you don't mean the people of Ukraine, this isn't for you.
Also, my translation is not a substitute for the actual ritual words. I used to speak Russian 30 years ago; Ukrainian and Russian are mostly mutually intelligible and I have access to an online translator program, so my translation is enough for casual readers to get the gist of what's going on, but if you plan to actually participate, use the Ukrainian words. And if you don't know how, then this isn't for you.
The third part of the ritual is a curse directed against Putin. The article does not include any ritual instructions for participating in this part of the ritual. Instead, it digresses into a history of cursing against leaders of countries.
I am not recommending this specific ritual because I can't be sure it really comes from Ukrainian witches, but so far it's the only one I've seen that appears to have originated in Ukraine rather than originating with Western witches and pagans. So if you are looking for a ritual called for and directed by Ukrainians, this may be it. I would recommend doing some checking, either by mundane or magical means or both, about whether you should participate in this, before deciding whether to actually do it. Of course, I would recommend that for any call for group ritual by people you don't know. It's up to you to decide.

After the invasion I felt an impulse to do magic in support of Ukraine. In the morning before breakfast I light a candle and say: "I offer this candle and this song too Lord Yaho; Brother Yeshua; and Veles for their guidance and blessings on the land and people of Ukraine." I would then sing "We shall overcome". After bringing in the morning paper I would say: "Thank you Lord Yaho; Brother Yeshua and Veles for your guidance and blessings on the land and people of Ukraine." Then I would blow out the candle. Last Monday the 21st I had an impulse at work that I should change the song to "Ghost Riders in the Sky". When I got home from work I used my pendulum to check and the answer was yes it's time to change songs.
Yaho according to my Biblical Archaeology review is the pronunciation of YHVH during the Persian period. Yeshua is of course the Aramaic form of Jesus, the one he would have known is his lifetime.
As regards to Putin on the Full Moon and Last Quarter Moon I wrote out his full name on a piece of toilet paper and said the following:
"Vladimir Vladimirovitch Putin, God is not mocked, as a man soweth so shall he reap.
Vladimir Vladimirovitch Putin, God is not mocked, as a man soweth so shall he reap.
Vladimir Vladimirovitch Putin, God is not mocked, as a man soweth so shall he reap.
Vladimir Vladimirovitch Putin, As you have done to others, so shall it be done to you.
Vladimir Vladimirovitch Putin, As you have done to others, so shall it be done to you.
Vladimir Vladimirovitch Putin, As you have done to others, so shall if be done to you.
Vladimir Vladimirovitch Putin, You have sown the wind, now reap the whirlwind.
Vladimir Vladimirovitch Putin, You have sown the wind, now reap the whirlwind.
Vladimir Vladimirovitch Putin, You have sown the wind, now reap the whirlwind."
I then threw the paper in the toilet, took a dump and flushed the toilet.
