The Troth Paxson Situation

This post recaps the news coverage about the Troth's explusion of Diana Paxson. Then this includes useful links for surivors at the bottom of the post.

Trigger Warning: Child Sexual Abuse

The background:

The largest universalist (non-racist) Asatru organization in the USA is The Troth, formerly headed by author Diana Paxson. It has been known for a very long time that she was personal friends and professional colleagues with Marion Zimmer-Bradley, having built her career on that association. Both authors were associated with the writer's community Greyhaven. Years ago, MZB's husband Breen was convicted of csa and Breen went to prison and died there. Also years ago, there was a wave of book burnings of MZB's books in the pagan and sf communities when Breen's crimes became known.

The current situation:

The Troth's public statement as reported by The Wild Hunt was that a student objected to Paxson's comments on Netflix about the history of Greyhaven and its famous members. The Troth acted in a startlingly rapid way and kicked Paxson out. There are also current allegations from a group called Fire and Ice, which seems to be about abuse, but I don't know 1. what happened 2. who is the abuser 3. who complained 4. whether it's been reported to the police, or to anyone except the Troth. So far there has been no public statement including those details.

My reaction:

I delayed writing about this situation because I was personally triggered by the situation and I took some time to deal with it. Also, I expected more information on the allegations by Fire and Ice to become public soon after the Troth public statement was published, and I was expecting to be able to report about that too, but there has not been any new public information released.

As long time readers of my blog know, I'm a survivor of csa. Those interested in my story can go back to my earliest posts here and read about my childhood, particularly my post Lord of the Monsters. When I read about the current situation, I find there are questions I had not thought of before about my own issues. Also, I'm acquainted with some of the people whose histories are being discussed in the current situation. That adds another layer of complexity to my feelings. Others are covering the news, and I don't think I can add much to the coverage. So instead of analyzing the news coverage about the Troth situation, I'm posting some links for surivors of s*xual violence and csa.
