Call for Art for 2018 Calendars

The 2018 Heathen Calendar and 2018 Slavic Calendar need 12 artworks each. Caliburn Press is offering royalties.

The 2017 calendars were our first calendars, and we chose to use public domain art for our first year. This time we want to use art by living artists. We would like for the art to be suitable for use as devotional art after it is used for the calendar year. That is, we intend that these calendars not be disposable objects, but rather that the art will be removed and framed or used on altars. That's why we print them on heavy paper stock.

Here are links to this year's calendars:

2017 Slavic Calendar

As you can see, these are not just standard calendars with heathen and Slavic art, but are actual pagan holiday calendars with the Heathen holidays on the Heathen calendar and Slavic holidays on the Slavic calendar. The 2018 calendars will also have these holidays, recalculated for 2018.

Please submit works by Summer Soltice 2017 (June 21.)

Format

Like the 2017 calendars, the 2018 calendars will have art printed on 8 1/2" x 11" horizontal paper. The 2017 calendars included both vertical and horizontal art, so we printed frames around them, but for the 2018 calendars we'd like to print the art full page, so art submitted for the calendars must be suitable for full color printing at that size, and must be horizontal. Please send jpg files.

Payment

Each calendar will have 12 artworks. Each artwork will yield 2% royalties to the artist. So, for example, an artist who has 2 artworks in one calendar would get 4% of that calendar's proceeds, and an artist with 1 artwork in each calendar would get 2% of each calendar.

Subject matter

Mythology, fairy tales, folklore, ritual practices such as dance, music, blessings, holidays, festivals, magic, seasonal practices, possibly history if related to religion, rites of passage, symbols, temples, sacred objects, etc. So far we have not yet accepted any art. We'll try not to have more than one of any given subject each year. If you are unsure which of your artworks to send, please inquire. Reprints are fine as long as you retain the rights to them.

Summary:

Horizontal art to be printed at the size 8 1/2" x 11".

jpg files

Non-exclusive license to print for a single year's calendar in return for 2% royalties per artwork

Previously published works (reprints) are OK

Deadline: Summer.
