My Pagan savings challenge post generated a lot of discussion on the Witches & Pagans Facebook page.  I thought it would be appropriate to share some of the questions and comments, in the form of a Q&A.

1. When do I start?  Any day of the week will do, but if you picked January 1, be aware that there are 53 Wednesdays in 2014.  I'm setting aside my money on Sunday.
2. Can I do this backwards, starting with $52 in week one?  Sure!  The idea of adding another dollar each week appealed to me because it parallels my experience with raising energy, but you can raise energy with a big starting push that tapers off, as well.
3. Is there a math error in the chart?  I would actually call the error in week 49 a typo, but it is a mistake.  I didn't catch it, couldn't have fixed it if I did, and hope that anyone who didn't notice will be pleasantly surprised at the extra hundred dollars they have come week 49.
4. Does money really have any place in a spiritual or religious practice?  A discussion on that deserves a post or ten of its own, but in short:  so long as we choose to use money, there is value in guiding its use with religion and ethics; it doesn't have its own.
5. Can I start with a higher amount than a dollar?  If you financial situation permits, why not?
6. By the end of the year, I won't be able to afford this.  What now?  Start with a penny, if that's all you can afford.  The principles of savings and energy-raising work just the same.
7. Does this work with other currencies?  Sure.  Euros, pounds, kruggerands, yen, rupees, yuan . . . whatever form your money is denominated in is fine.
8. What's the point of doing this?  This is simply an exercising in the raising of energy.  As with any such exercise, stating an intention can help.  I am saving towards a fireplace insert, to heat my home more sustainably and less expensively.
9. Does it have to be in cash?  No, that's my personal preference.  I find that physical cash is a better reminder of the work, but I have to safeguard the bills.  An electronic account may serve others better.
