Middle Earth Magic: Inspired Ideas and Seasonal Spells for Your Enchanted Life

I grew up on a farm in West Virginia and learned much about herbs, trees, animals, gardening, foraging  and so much about nature. I incorporate this wisdom I learned from elders in my family into my spellwork. When I finally left the farm, I majored in Medieval Studies, my attempt to emulate my idol, J.R.R. Tolkien. All these influences led me to my own blended brew which I call "middle earth magic," containing a mix of the modern and the time-tested "old ways."

Witchy Wellness for Working at Home

No matter what kind of work you do, there are moments where you need to take a momentary break, regroup and refresh yourself. This comforting and calming potion will do just that. Keep this in your desk drawer where you can access this homemade helpmate anytime you need it. The subtle combination of almond, coconut, lavender and vanilla is deeply comforting and uplifting. In a mere ten minutes, you can whip up a spa retreat in lotion form. This is so quick and easy, you will doubtless add this to your list of calming crafts.

Gather together:

•1/2 cup almond carrier oil

•1/3 cup coconut oil

•¼ cup shea butter

•2 tablespoons beeswax

•1 teaspoon each of lavender essential oil and vanilla essential oil

•Sealable tin or heat-proof glass jar; 4-ounce closed containers are easy to pop in your bag and take to work

•Double boiler with water

•Wooden spoon

•Labels and pens

Combine the almond and coconut oils, shea butter and beeswax and heat gently in the double boiler. As the water heats, the ingredients will start to melt. Stir intermittently with your wooden spoon as they melt to blend. Once the mixture is melted, turn off the stove and remove from the heat. Once it has cooled for five minutes add in the essential oils and gently fold those in so the batch is thoroughly infused with the essential oils. Pour into your storage containers, seal and label. The lavender essential oil brings deeply tranquil feelings and vanilla is very comforting so this combination is ideal for a sense of Zen positivity. In addition to using this on your hands, put a tiny bit on your fingertips and apply to your pulse points such as your temples, wrists, over your heart and at the base of your throat.  Close your eyes and breathe in the delightful and relaxing scent and reclaim your Zen.

Other essential oil combinations to consider for wellness at work:

Grounding: Sandalwood and amber     Worry Free: Ylang ylang and grapefruit

Serenity: Clary sage and mint Om Oils: Chamomile and melissa

Sweet Life: Rose and geranium Blissing Bergamot and neroli
