In honor of Memorial Day, which we in the USA are celebrating this weekend (even though it is actually at the end of the month--that's the way we roll here), here is a spell for Bravery.

Most of us don't have to go into actual battle, thank goodness, but life can be a pretty daunting experience sometimes, and most of us have circumstances now and again where we could use a little more courage. I hope this spell (from Everyday Witch A to Z Spellbook, Llewellyn 2010) helps you when you need a little boost.

Magical Mondays: A Spell to Counter Anxiety

I often get requests for spells and other magical advice and tidbits. Just this week, one of my readers sent me a message on Facebook saying that she needed a house blessing for her new home, but she had already packed all her books. She wanted to know if I could help.

Anyone who has been around here for more than a couple of weeks can probably guess that my answer was, "Congratulations on your new home! And yes, of course I can." I sent her a copy of the house blessing and consecration spell out of my second Llewellyn book, Everyday Witch A to Z Spellbook

Pantheacon: A Gathering of Kindred

I just came back early last week from one of my favorite places on earth. No, not Disney (which I'd never survive), but rather Pantheacon, the huge Pagan convention held every year in mid-February in San Jose, California. Since I live in upstate NY, all the way across the country, I don't make it to PCon as often as I'd like to, but I went in 2008, then 2011, and this year in 2015. And as always, I had a blast, met up with lots of fabulous people (including my beloved Llewellyn editor Elysia Gallo, publicist Kat, and photo-bombing publisher Bill, seen in the picture above), and got really really tired.

I'm almost recovered enough now to talk about it. Although returning to the snow and bitter cold after the lovely weather in CA hasn't made it any easier to bounce back. Sigh.

Feeding the Birds as a Spiritual Practice

When I moved into the house I’m living in now (about 13 years ago), one of the first things I did was to set up a couple of birdfeeders. I’d never been able to do this in the previous places I lived, either because I had outdoor cats—and it always seemed kind of cruel for me to put out food for the birds, knowing that some of them were going to get attacked when they came to eat—or because I was living in an apartment with no good place to put a feeder.

As a Pagan, I look at feeding the birds (and the other critters who are attracted to the seeds that spill onto the ground underneath) not just as a fun thing to do, but as a part of my spiritual practice. Allow me to explain.
