In honor and celebration of the Winter Solstice and the conclusion of the Mayan calendar, I thought it would be fun to look at a Mayan adventure story with Pagan themes. Regardless of your take on the Winter Solstice, we can all agree that the event will not occur for another 26,000 years. This is history in the making! It connects us past and present. And to celebrate, why not pick up a good book!

Travels of Danger in the Yucatan: A Mayan Time Travel Odyssey is a novella that takes the reader into the mystical lair of King Crow, where Dr. Wainwright, a Mayan scholar, undertakes an expedition to uncover its secrets, despite the lair's reported hauntings and mysterious nature. Wainwright enters the lair knowing no one has ever made it out alive. With his predecessor’s journal, Wainwright stumbles into a shifting portal where time is disjointed—past, present, and future collide, making retreat impossible. He encounters a fellow archaeologist, soldiers in Cortez’ army, and other strange characters along the way.

Pagan themes abound inside the lair. The story revolves around the mystery cult of King Crow, a ritual conducted on the Winter Solstice, which consisted of thirty-nine steps on the pathway of initiation. As Wainwright quests into the temple chambers, he discovers the long history and sacred practices of the Crow Goddess. Readers who appreciate Mayan mythology or have a kinship to the Eleusian mysteries, will see similarities.

As the Winter Solstice approaches, why not make a cup of xocolatl hot chocolate, and curl up with this time travel adventure. Available for download here.
