Tarot Templates: A Card A Day Creates Magic

Tarot can be used for many things including futurecasting. This blog will focus on Tarot as a tool for introspection including spreads, readings, individual card explorations and investigating themes of Tarot. You can expect discussions of magical uses of Tarot as well. If you have a question, please send it for possible inclusion in a blog topic.

Of Whales & Priestesses

Posted by on in SageWoman Blogs

I've been doing a series this week on the Wooden Tarot, a self-published deck by A.L. Swartz. You can see the full series here.
What a fabulous card we have for our last day of the Wooden Tarot week. Don't despair. I am sure I will turn to this deck again. It has hooked me despite the few small quibbles I have.

A.L. Swartz once again takes a pretty traditional card and turns it on its ear. Or maybe that's turns me upside down. He has taken a baleen whale to use for the mysterious High Priestess. I am not sure which species this is--perhaps a blue whale? Maybe a right whale?

She leaps up out of a sea covered by clouds. She has six fins as well as six eyes making you know that this is a mystical interpretation of this animal. The moon hangs above waxing, full and waning. With those eyes, she sees past, present and future. She knows what it means to see beyond the Veil. Her eyes fascinate me because I think the High Priestess is an oracle who sees this world as well as the otherworld. Also, she sees that misty in-between where we co-exist with spirit world.

While the black and white towers, Boaz and Jachin are not here, I think the waning and waxing moons stand in for them. I love that she is mid-air and out of her natural element. This makes her momentarily more approachable, momentarily accessible.

A whale as High Priestess is good. As one of the denizens of the deep, the baleen whales are more secretive like the High Priestess. Their smaller cousins, the dolphins, are more readily available making them less attractive to me for this card. I love an animal that is hard to find. A seeker must truly want to find Her to see Her. That's the magic in this card for me.

Messages brought to you by this cetacean behemoth won't be easily understood. You may have to sift through a lot of water to get the krill you need.

Today's affirmation:

I am open to the message of the Universe. As a child of the Universe, I recieve what I need to know. I stay open to all that nature has to teach me. I see the hidden secrets easily. Loved and loving, I love each of you.

Seek joy, y'all. Pass it on.
