Tarot Templates: A Card A Day Creates Magic

Tarot can be used for many things including futurecasting. This blog will focus on Tarot as a tool for introspection including spreads, readings, individual card explorations and investigating themes of Tarot. You can expect discussions of magical uses of Tarot as well. If you have a question, please send it for possible inclusion in a blog topic.

SPREAD: Inner Stillness

--Stephanie Arwen Lynch-Poe

—  Eckhart Tolle

I read this quote a few years ago. It stuck with me. I wanted to use Tarot to explore how to regain that state of being in touch with my inner stillness. I see it as a breach of faith with myself when I lose this quiet place in my spirit.

Using this quote as a basis, I moved backwards. I felt that the first thing we needed to know was why we wanted to lose ourselves in the world. Not how, but why. This one may be a more difficult position simply because it's hard to admit that we might be culpable in this loss. I know that I often indulge in busy work when I might make better use of my time by doing some spiritual work.

Once we acknowledge the why, then we need a second card to act as a compass. This one points a way back to ourselves. I like to think of this as the rest stop or maybe an exit sign from life's busy highway.

Now that we have a direction, we need an action. The third card can show us what actions to take to open back up to inner stillness. Think of this as the Universe's prescription to heal this breach of faith with self. It's not a Band-Aid to slap one. Rather it is a program to follow so that we can reclaim the inner stillness we've lost touch with.

And then our final position is the gift. I believe in the carrot method rather than the stick method. A treat is so much nicer to try to get than working to avoid the punishment. Right? So the fourth card here is what we can expect as our reward for doing the work. Perhaps less stress? More creativity? A greater connection with our community? Chocolate?

Okay, so maybe chocolate isn't a strong possibility. Darn it.

There are several cards that speak to me of inner stillness. One is the Four of Swords that so often shows a meditative pose of some type. The other is, of course, the Hermit with his ongoing search for the Star (which is often already trapped in his lantern.) Then I can't leave out the Nine of Pentacles either since it speaks to me about pausing to enjoy what you have.

I hope you find this spread useful. I would love to hear from you if you do this spread. Feel free to link to your own post in the comments if you choose to try this one out.

Inner Stillness Spread

  • Losing myself in the world: This position answers why I am choosing to lose myself in the world.
  • Finding myself in the world: This position offers a way back to myself.
  • What will best lead me to that place of inner stillness: This position examines what I can do to reclaim that place of inner stillness.
  • Gift I can expect: This position is the promise of what will come from reconnecting with that place of inner stillness.

By the way? I intentionally chose the Art of Life for this spread because it combines the amazing art of our culture as well as quotes. Did I mention how much I love quotes?

Before you go, won't you tell me one way you find that inner stillness? I'd appreciate it.
