Pagan savings challenge, week sixteen: other voices

Discovering what other people are saying about the Pagan savings challenge is a source of joy for me.  Case in point:  this PaganSpace.net discussion about different savings strategies.

The original poster says, "I'm not going about it the same way he did just because I don't think it would work for me to be putting more than $5 a week away into savings is practical for my low income family."  I agree!  The level of savings should be challenging, but not impossible.  I'm glad e is adapting the challenge to fit eir own circumstances, because any savings is better than no savings, and developing a saving habit will serve you for life.

Some of the other wisdom shared is also sound, like capturing money saved by being frugal and using only cash.  Anything to get the saving done is fine in my book, even lying.  I use many tricks to stay on track (and I have stayed on track, despite the challenges I have documented; the original PaganSpace poster was left with the impression that I have not hit my goals each week, and I apologize if I have been unclear in that regard.)

My week sixteen savings:  $136, 12% ($16) of which I added today.

As I get by on disabilty I do a number of things to save money. One is I only use cash and take out what I think is right for the week. If I see something that I must have over that amount my bank charges a service charge to take out more oney that day so I wait tothe next week by which time I have usually forgotten what i had wanted so bad the week before.

Second if I start to get ahead on my savings I get even more careful with my spending as that usually means an unexpected bill is about to happen. So far I ave never been caught short.

On the few can foods that I use often, I usually buy by the case and save 10% on two to three cases on.

Clothes are a matter of comfort, durability, and ease of care. Boots, I spend good money on and my two present pairs have lasted me over ten years by just sending them in for resoling once a year

This method usually keeps me with cash on hand so I can occasionally get something extra. In my case that is usually a trip to the used book store.
