Culture Blogs
Apples & Roots-they are common enough items and yet they have a great deal of magic, mythic, and folkloric value assigned to them-for healing, hexing, blessing, and all manner of ritual & religious uses.
That is the idea behind this blog-to fuse the everyday and seemingly ordinary life with the strong currents of your soul-work, spirituality, and magic. We will talk about religion, ritual, magic, divination-and how these mythic arts feed and inspire our lives and how our lives as a result grow richer, deeper, and more purpose flled.
Acts of Devotion: Worshiping at the Altar
The altar is in your home, ontop the piano, the mantle, your bedside table. Its the dashboard of your car, the rim of your bathtub, and the window ledge.
The altar is the prayer card you carry in your wallet depicting a beloved Saint, your cat drenched in the morning sun, your two year old's toes.
The altar is the top of your dorm room fridge and your bookcases. It is the fresh earth-newly turned up and ready for planting. The kitchen is your altar to nourishment and every bowl of soup and glass of water can be prepared and consumed as a form of devotion, a holy offering.
The body is your altar, your body. Ornamented, covered or revealed, painted, left bare-crouched in suffering, tense in its fragility, and arched in ecstasy-all of it holy.
You don't have to go looking for acts of devotion or create special rituals to bring them into your life-altars are everywhere and taking a deep breath can be prayer drenched worship.
So tell me friends...where are your altars, what do they look like, and how are you devoted?
